Government sources say that the continued detention of El-Zakzaki may be connected to issues with national security. However, his incarceration, which has involved the government of the Islamic republic of Iran, also specially lobbying for El-Zakzaki's release, may not bring the Buhari administration, any peace as the group is bent on carrying out their protests despite its proscription.
It therefore, has become unlawful and forbidden for members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria or any of its affiliates to participate in any form of gathering, processions or activites involving the group in any part of Nigeria.
The IMN becomes the second group after the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), so proscribed by the Buhari administration since inception. There has been arguments however, over the adminstration's refusal to deal the same blow to armed cattle herders, operating under the code name "Fulani herdsmen", who have caused the greatest deaths by any group after boko haram recently.
